I have been inspired to create art with an inspirational purpose.
I'm rediscovering the freedom and creative expression that I felt when I was a child.

Artist Statement

The vision of an angel guided me to create art to inspire you. My art translates wisdom and energy into a creative form that you can see and experience. The mystical images are like a mirror or a doorway to the secret worlds of spirit and the collective unconscious. I hope it encourages you to connect with your own sacred truth and joyful qualities of life.

I developed a technique to create art, which allows me to release any conscious plans for a particular composition. Instead, I rely more on my imagination and intuition to guide me. I randomly blend chalk pastels onto paper with my fingers. Then I gaze into the clouds of colors and see blurry images already forming. Angels, people, landscapes, and animals appear before my eyes. It is similar to finding shapes in clouds, except I see them on the paper in front of me. I then enhance the shapes and images with lines, colors, and textures so that they are easier to see.

Mystical experiences have occurred to me many times. These experiences have changed my life and guided my artwork from traditional graphic design into the new direction of inspirational visionary art. This art contains insightful imagery intended to awaken and inspire people on many levels. My work attempts to express and reveal the parts of life that exist beyond normal words and explanations.

After working in the graphic design field, I found that I had become very serious about my art and had forgotten how to play. My designs were regulated to creating animal exhibit signs for the City of Dallas Zoo. While I enjoyed it, I knew that it was not my life purpose and I felt a calling to help people in a more positive and creative way. Then in 1998, I began having mystical experiences that I could not explain or understand. An angelic presence appeared several times to deliver a message to me. At first I dismissed the visions but eventually realized there validity.

The angel messenger guided me to create art that would remind people of their own inner greatness and angelic guidance. At the time, I had no idea what this meant. But I began to practice by creating art for my friends. At first I felt very stiff and wanted to recapture the freedom of expression that I knew as a child. I even blew bubbles, played jax, practiced meditation and other activities to reawaken my ability to imagine and play. To my surprise my senses and intuition also expanded and assisted me with my artwork. After several months I began to draw Soul Portraits, visionary art and commissions. My work continues to expand and change as I grow internally. It is fabulous to see many people connecting with the art and being inspired in their own lives.

Tools:
I use NuPastel brand chalk pastels, and pastel pencils for fine details.
The drawings are on colorful Canson brand pastel paper.

Inspirations:
The artists that inspire me are: John Biggers, Susan Seddon Boulet, Amanda Dunbar, Andy Lakey, Josephine Wall, Dali, Klimt, Stephen Grant.
The search for greater truth and understanding, miracles, the joys of life, and nature are also influences on my work.

Background:
I grew up in a small town on the Mississippi gulf coast of America. The beaches, ocean, and sky were my favorite things while growing up. My family's house was filled with creativity and I always loved to draw. I received a BA in Graphic Design and Illustration from Memphis College of Art. My professional career was as a production artist for a newspaper advertising company and artist for the Dallas Zoo Graphics department.
